L.A Girl Nail Polish

Since starting my new job I've had to walk through Westfield Stratford everyday, and with the state my finances are in I've been pretty much walking through with a blindfold on to resist temptation.

However pay day arrived and I opened my eyes a wee bit. First to catch my eye was a sign '99p nail poilsh'.

The selection in 'Beauty Box' is hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... I didn't know where to start.

The higher end of the range comes in at £1.99.
L.A Girl Rock Star - Supernova - 1.99

Teamed up with black L'oreal polish

The result - love them!

I'd defo recommend popping into this shop for a nosey if your in the Stratford area!!

More Moss on my lips!

I think it is fairly safe to say that I'm having a little love affair with my Kate Moss Rimmel lipsticks!!

I bought a couple a while back, which you can see here, and just love love love them.

I've been drooling over the others in the collection, and today I picked up '20 Rossetto'. I got mine for £3.99 in Boots on offer, they are retailing everywhere else @ £5.49 or €6.95 for all you lovely Irish ladies!

If the truth be told I've been hymming and hawing over this color for quiet a while as I was afraid it was a bit too bright, but I think the sun has inspired me to embrace a bit of color!!!

I cant wait for the long weekend to stick on a nice black dress, and pop this bad boy on my lips!! (even though my poor BF wont thank me for the pink lippy on his face)

Anyone else loving these lippys???

Vichy Normaderm Review

Vichy Normaderm offers a complete collection for imperfection prone skin: irregular texture, excess oil, blocked and/or dilated pores.

After reading loads about this range online, and all over blogs, I couldn't wait to get my paws on it. My skin hasn't been in great shape for the last few months, and I was eager to get something that may help clear it all up.

I got three products in the three for two in boots about three months ago, and wanted to give them a fair go before I reviewed.

Product Information:

Normaderm Hydrating Care £11.74
Transforms 6 imperfection concerns:
-Oily Skin
-Uneven Complexion

Info from Vichy Website

This moisturiser comes in a 50ml pump bottle, which is great for controlling the amount you need. I found it really nice and light on my skin, and didn't feel at all greasy etc after. However I do wish that there was an SPF present.

Normaderm Exfoliating Unclogging Gel £10.50
'Unclogs pores and refines skin texture'.

As I have an oily t-zone a good exfoliator is necessary. This comes in a clear squeezy 125ml bottle. The beads in this are just the right size and texture, leaving your skin feeling clean but not too scratchy.
I was using this on average three times a week, and usually in the shower.

Normaderm Purifying Cleansing Gel  £10.50
This daily cleansing gel 'helps reduce sebum and impurities without over drying'.

This cleansing gel comes in a 200ml pump bottle. I find one pump goes a long way and gives a lovely foaming texture. It removes all traces of makeup and gives a great clean feeling to my skin without my face and neck feeling too dry afterward.

As I mentioned above, I have been using these products on a daily basis for almost three months now. I am very sorry to report that I haven't noticed any difference in my skin tone. Although my skin feels clean etc after using these products, I find my pores to be in the same condition and blemishes have yet to disappear.

I will continue to use these products as I feel they aren't doing my skin any harm, but I probably will not repurchase once they have run out.

Has anyone else used these and found little results, or are you one of the lucky ones that has fantastic skin courtesy of Vichy???

Body Positive - Struggling

After having another meltdown today over my clothes I felt I needed to vent a wee bit.

I'm a big fan of body positive posts, I always feel great about myself after reading and think that I'm ready to take on the world. I love they way they encourage me not to accept the 'norms' of society, to ignore all those bullshit airbrushed photos in mags, and to simply love myself for who I am.

However this never last longer than a few days... For those of you who don't know me I size in at 10/12, more 12 on the bottom half!! I know that this a perfectly average/normal size, but I have serious issues with the lower half of my body... I have no idea where it all stemmed from. A few years ago I would go out not a bother with my leggies on display (als with the help of sunshimmer) and would feel quiet happy with myself. But over the last year or so, I've made a conscious effort to cover up my legs whether it be through maxi dresses or tights.

Two things I have come to hate, and I mean HATE, are leggings and skinny jeans. I als used to wear skinny jeans, but since this horrible feeling creeped into my head, I would put them on with a top, look at myself in the mirror, look down at my thighs and feel like an absolute heiffer. It ends up ruining my day, like properly ruining it, and reducing me to tears out of sheer frustration sometimes. The same with leggings, I usually wear them under dresses, but they are no longer my friend, it has escalated into me thinking that people will see my thighs wobble cause they are tight. Yet again, if I accidentally put them on in the morning in a rush, I end up having a near mental breakdown.

I can almost hear you thinking to yourselves 'did someone say something to her to make her think this way', but NO nobody has ever made a negative comment about my body to me!!! So I really have no clue where this came from. I did a lot of running last year and I think that gave me a wee bit of confidence in my leggies again, but not to the point I'd be out in my shorts. As I typed that line I have just had a horrendous flash back of buying denim shorts last spring and feeling like i was stuffed in to them, and I'm now wondering if that was indeed the beginning of this stupid issue....

I've moved to London over 9 months ago, wow that flew by, and I was hoping that over here I may find 'my style' that will get me over this f'in hill I keep rolling back down. Due to money etc I haven't been able to go out and buy a new wardrobe etc, but I am slowly but surely getting into the frame of mind that in this big city no one is going to judge my legs.

My first positive step was to get rid of my skinny jeans. They do not make me feel skinny, they make me feel like a beached whale and ruin my day, so bye bye you can continue your life in the charity shop. I got rid of my leggings too, apart from the ones I use for exercise. I do not want clothes in my wardrobe that make me feel like shit.

My second positive step begins tomorrow, when I bare the legs, put in the ipod and run the shit out of myself... I feel better when I exercise, it doesn't only help my physical appearance, it improves my mental health.

Without sounding too dramatic, I feel this issue I'm having with my legs is getting way to out of hand, and I just need to be done with it. If we get any bit of sun this summer, I do no intend to hide my legs away behind trousers or tights!!!

I want to feel good about myself, I want to be able to prance about London in the sun and get a few freckles, and the inevitable burn on my legs!!! I want to believe my BF when he tells me that I have a gorg figure, and not second guess him. I don't want my body issues to come between us. I also want to go on holidays once my contract is up and stroll about in a bikini feeling fab!!!

Hopefully the next time I write on this subject, the 'struggling' will be dropped from the title!!! Actually no hopefully about it, it will be!!

Sinus Solutions!

I have been a constant sinus infection sufferer for the past 5/6 years, which I'm sure many of you out there can relate to??

If you have do not know what/where/who sinus are then lucky you!!!
In lay mans terms, sinuses are air filled spaces that surround the nasal cavity, above and between the eyes. Sinusitis occurs when these air filled spaces become inflamed due to infection or allergies.

Symptoms of sinusitis (from personal experience):
  • Headaches
  • Nose bleeds or blood when blowing nose
  • Blocked Nose
  • Pressure on cheeks, forehead, nose..
When you stand up, when you lie down, it feels like the inside of your head is following the rest of it, and then comes crashing through after!
I got very sick of taking antibiotics, sudafed etc etc for something that would return a few months later, and just generally didn't want to take antibiotics/tablets all the time. There had to be an alternative out there.

Steaming - no result, except for clearing my pores a wee bit!!

Neil Med sinus rinse - This is a plastic bottle with a straw like thing attached to the lid. You simply but the saline solution (that you get with the kit) and dilute with warmish water in the bottle. You then bend over a sink, put the bottle against one nostril and slowly squeeze the bottle which makes the water go up your nose, then repeat on the opposite nostril with half the water. The first time you use it the drowning sensation is horrible, but the temporary relief you feel will make you get over that fairly quickly!
There is no doubt that the results are fast, your snot and pain free for a few hours!!
It retails for about €25 for the starter kit.

Dairy Products - A few people told me that cutting dairy out of my diet would help, but that's never going to happen, I would rather suffer than have to change my whole diet!

Nasal Sprays - I have tried a few of these including the sudafed one, which didn't do much for me!! But my most recent has been nasonex. This was recommended by the doctor, the same doctor that didn't even look up my nose, so as you can imagine I wasn't too hopeful this would help at all. I does exactly what it says on the tin, you spray it up your nostril. I find it gives me a wee bit of relief, but certainly nothing to write home about. However it is pretty handy to carry in your handbag.

So basically I wasn't having much luck, and def didn't find a miracle worker! I generally found myself to be taking tablets at least twice a week to get rid of the muggy clogged up headaches and sore cheeks!!!

As I mentioned the doctor that I went to see the last time was worse than useless, he wouldn't of cared if my sinuses were about to explode!! Doosh!!! This encounter led me to the health store near my office where I asked the lady for her advice. First thing she said was to perhaps cut dairy out of my diet, told her this wasn't going to happen. She then suggested that I take a pro-biotic of sorts.

Solgar - Advanced 40+ Acidophilus, Vegetable Capsules (£12.95 approx)

These tabs are essentially a food supplement, suitable for vegans, and are salt, sugar and starch free. As I am not using them as a food supplement, i take one per day, after dinner or a big lunch usually. They are quiet big in size so take em with a good gulp of water!

After about a month of using them, I hadn't taken any pain relief at all and hadn't been complaining of sinus pain.
I forgot to take them for a bout two weeks a while ago and I swear it was like instantly my sinuses got blocked up!!!

To round up, for temp relief, sinus rinse and nasal sprays are fine, but if you are looking for a more long time solution I'd def recommend the above tabs.

If any of you chose these I'd love to hear about how they work for you!!!

Or if any of you have any other solutions be sure to share the wealth!!!

New Job Reactions

I've been neglecting my b=poor lil blog of late due to a house move and starting a new job, so its been pretty hectic.

I got kinda curious as to how y'all react/act when you start a new job??

Businessman Elephant Clipart Image: A cartoon elepant waving and holding a briefcase

I started a new job last week, which I was majorly excited for. I got the email with details of induction etc, howver the one thing that go me into a bit of a tizzy was 'smart/casual' wear..... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH what if my idea of smart/casual is completely different from the powers above.

Once you get over the hurdle of deciding what to wear, you have the anxious journey that allows plenty of time for your 'whats if'.
  • What if I'm crap at this job
  • What if I hate it
  • What if I make no friends
  • What if I've made a huge mistake leaving the comfort of my old job
  • What if I spill coffee down my dress and look like a dick for the day
Once I've settled myself with the help of my 'chill' playlist its that walking into the new workplace with your head held high pretending you are the most confident person in the world. Suss out who looks like a 'normal' person and sit beside them for induction, and try to remember that everyone in this room is in the same boat!

Then comes lunch time, you can't leave as their is only time for a quick sambo... Yikes do you cling to the person you sat beside or do you hang out in the corner eating your sambo and capri sun!!!
Lucky for me, the people either side of me were really normal and nice :) But then I found out that they were working in diff parts of the olympics therefore I would have to do all of this again when I was at my new office the next day...

Holy moley, I'm evening sweating a bit now thinking I dont want to have to do that again for a while!!
I'm sure some of you may be reading this thinking I'm so irratic crazy lady, IM NOT!!! I just get a bit anxious in new situations!!! I'm by no means shy or quiet, thats why I wonder why I panic and get so nervous on my first day @ a new job.

Am I alone in this or are any of y'all in the same boat for new jobs??

Who is Oscar Wells

I felt it was about time I let y'all who take the time out of your day to read my blog just who I am!!!

When I started this blog a couple of months a go, I dunno why, but I was a bit apprehensive about putting up my photo and name etc. But now the time has come mainly due to me feeling that you should know who you are reading!

Introductions first:

Hi my name is Cólleen - pronounced Co-Lean, NOT Col-leen (i will correct you if you say it wrong), but most of my friends/acquaintances shorten it to Có & Cól. If you not Irish then you prob wont know what the'accent' over the o is for, well its called a fada, and it elongates the sound of the word!

Who am I?

I am 26, born and bred in County Kildare, Ireland, right on the edge of the Curragh.
I currently live in London with my gorg BF, and at present I work for LOCOG (olympics).
I studied Health, Fitness & Leisure in IT Tralee and graduated in 2008.

What am I passionate about?

My long term career objective is to work in the disability sector, in particular disability sport.

However I am also very passionate about music, fashion and more recently makeup. These three things will be the main features in this blog, and I hope you enjoy reading about them!!

Also a huge GAA fan, Up the Moores,  prob the thing I will miss the most this summer, but I'm sure the olympics will keep me busy!!

What have I to show for my 26 years?

I can safely say that I have the most amazing family and group of friends I could ever want. Although my circle of friends are spread out all around the world at the moment, they still remain as close to me as ever!!
As i mentioned above I graduated in 2008 and since then I have holidayed in Thailand, lived & traveled Australia for 9 months, lived in Alaska for 3 months, and had jobs in between all of that!!!

Why did I start this blog?

Up until a few months ago the blogging world was completely unknown to me, until I started checking out blogs from the lovely ladies in and kinda got inspired from there!!! I'm not sure what I'm hoping to achieve out of this blog, or what to do with it, all I know is that I really enjoy writing and sharing with you. Thanks so much for reading, and I hope I can keep you entertained!!

Where did the blog name come from?

My BF calls me Oscar when I'm a bit grouchy, and the name of the street we lived on in the first house was Wells Drive so I threw them together. Oscar the grouch lives in a tin bin so it only seemed logical that that would be the title of the blog!!

Bye Bye!!!

Ok so ye thats me, Cant think of much else to tell y'all, but sure look if there is anything I missed, give me a tweet and Ill be sure to answer coco_oscarwells!!

Ill stick a pic of myself up when I find my camera charger :)

Oh also feel free to let me know who you are!!

Will you dip dye yours??

When I was young I never needed anyone, opps!!! What I meant to say was I used to experiment with my hair all the time, mainly down to my lovely friend Claire who is a hairdresser. Think my fave was prob when she did all the underneath of my fringe in pink.... (even if did result in me getting chased around Thailand for being the 'pale girl with funny hair')

As you may or may not know, I am currently living in London, the city that never sleeps, one of the fashion capitals of the world, blah blah blah get to the point I hear you say... Well basically you can wear your clothes/hair whatever way you like in this huge city and you will not look out of place, you will not receive funny looks. Therefore I ask myself, why the hell do I still have 'plain' hair at the moment, surely this is the time to get out the bleach and colors and have a bit of fun with my hair.

I'm a huge fan of the 'ombre' look but my hair refuses to grow to any length long enough to pull these off, boo!!!!

Also a huge fan of dip dyed hair, ahhhh to have long locks!!!

So after having a wee read in the Evening Standard I saw that one of the latest trends is dip dying your fringe!!! So ha take that long hair I don't need you to be cool, I can bleach up my fringe and do it whatever color I like... But am I brave enough!!!! Really I'm not to sure, I really like the idea of having a different color fringe than the rest of my hair, but whether I would go the whole hog I don't know!!!

Oh I'm enthused again whilst writing this!! I may get on to Claire again and go for the pink in the underneath layer again, and ease myself in to it!!!

Anyone else loving these hair do's?? If so will you be dying your fringe?? Or if you have lovely luscious locks will you be dipping them a diff color??

'ah sure I might wear it again'

My name is Cólleen and I used to be a clothes hoarder

But I kicked that habit when I first went travelling and realised that I couldn't bring the kitchen sink. I was forced to only have necessities.

I have done quiet a bit of travelling so my wardrobe has been emptied out over and over again over the past 4 years! If I haven't wore something in 6 - 8 months it goes to the local charity shop or bin!!!

Joanna Lumley is the face of a new campaign for Oxfam and Marks + Spencers called Shwopping. The whole aim of this campaign is that when you do your shopping in Marks there will be bags there to throw your unwanted items in, and these will be given to Oxfam (you can read more about the ins & outs here) In short its all about reducing the amount of clothes that end up in the landfill. All clothes donated will be resold, reused or recycled. They are also hoping to raise £2m to fight poverty.

Photo from
They kicked the campaign off in London by covering Brick Lane in 10,000 garments of unwanted clothing, this number is what gets throw in to a landfill every 5 mins, yes you read that right, 10,000 items every 5 minutes

Photos from
I'm aware a lot of us wont be shopping in Marks but I still think its effective in the way of giving us all a kick up the arse to actually recycle our clothes rather than throw them in the bin. It doesn't matter if you think it is tatty or horrible or whatever, throw it all in a bag, bring it to your local oxfam or preferred charity shop and keep it out of the landfill!!

Photos from
I have a bag waiting in the hallway ready to go to oxfam, someone will make good use of those size 10 skinny jeans I'm sick of bateing myself in to!!!

So ladies & gents, anyone inspired to go home and have a good root throught their wardrobes??

Music Therapy - James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love

You may have heard Tyler sing this on The Voice on Saturday night, but wait till you feast your ears on this puppy :)

Enjoy ladies & gents, the long weekend is nearly upon us!!

Music Therapy - Snow Patrol - New York

I've mentioned it before but I'll tell y'all again I'm a huge Snow Patrol fan, have seen them live about 6/7 times now in a few different countries. I am proud to admit that I have cried listening to the amazing voice of Gary Lightbody, (esp when under the influence of whiskey in oz wrapped in a tri color), and I was lucky enough, thanks to my gorg BF to see them live in the O2 London this past Feb.

When I heard this song live, I really can't describe how amazing it was. It was like every single person in the arena was in complete awe of how truly amazing this band really are.

I really hope you enjoy this song, and perhaps explore more Snow Patrol if your not already a big fan

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen Review

So I went to see Salmon Fishing in the Yemen @ the weekend without any high expectations, turns out I only bloody LOVED it!!

Who's in it??
Ewan McGregor (Fred) + Emily Blunt (Harriet)

Whats it about??
Based on a novel of the same name by author Paul Torday, a fisheries expert, Fred, is approached by a consultancy firm headed by Harriet, on behalf of the Sheik of (somewhere foreign?) to make it possible to fish for salmon in the middle of desert countryside in Yemen. Fred is very dismissive of the project at first, but when told by the home office he must go ahead with the project in order to promote good foreign relations he is thrown in the deep end so to speak with Harriet. What starts off as him essentially treating it like it will never work, turns into something he becomes terribly passionate about alongside the Sheik and Harriet. Is this the project that will change the life of this terribly dull civil servant.

My two cents:
This film is so so funny, full of great british humour. The contrast in characters is fabulous; Fred is your typical nerd whereas Harriet is a high flying business woman!!! Although you may see 'fishing' in the title and assume it is a snore fest, I can assure you its a fantastic watch. Its fast paced from the start getting right in to the storey line, no time for kissing as one might say. (go see it even if its just to have a perv @ Ewan and get out of the rain)
